Albert Einstein Fellowships Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship Program offers current public or private elementary and secondary mathematics, technology, and science classroom teachers with demonstrated excellence in teaching an opportunity to serve in the national public policy arena for ten months. Deadline: January www.trianglecoalition.org/ein.htm Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysics of Alberta's Teacher Awards Program Recognizes exceptional elementary, junior high and senior high school teachers who teach math or science; 14 winners will each receive $1,000. www.apegga.org/Science/teacher_awards.htm Biotechnology Institute The Genzyme-Invitrogen Biotech Educator Award, formerly the National Biotechnology Teacher-Leader Award, recognizes exemplary teaching at the high school level that has positively impacted students’ understanding of biotechnology’s promise and challenges. The winners receive cash awards of $10,000, $5,000 and $2,500 respectively and are chosen by a panel of judges from academia, research, and the industry, from among the Institute’s network of Teacher-Leaders. They will receive a stipend of $6,000 each summer, plus $2,000 in classroom supplies over the two years, along with opportunities to attend professional conferences. www.scienceteacherprogram.org Drug, Chemical & Allied Trades Association Education Foundation's "Making a Difference" Award Recognizes excellence in a science program developed by 6-8th grade science teachers with $2,500 to be used to enhance or expand the winning science program. www.nsta.org/185 Earthwatch Educator Fellowship Awards Awards are awarded through a competitive application process, are considered based on available funding in the applicant's geographic region, financial need, and the benefits that would result from participating on an Earthwatch expedition. Decisions are made on applications beginning in January and ending when funds are exhausted, typically by late spring. Elementary, middle, and high school educators and administrators of any discipline are eligible to apply. Deadline: October www.elpnet.org/fellowship.html Estes Rocketry/U.S. Space Foundation Space Educator Award Full-time middle school teachers who teach science in a classroom are eligible to receive this award, sponsored by Estes and the USSF, which includes $1,000 and a full-tuition fellowship to attend the Space Discovery Graduate Course in Colorado Springs, Colorado. www.nsta.org/193 Leopold Leadership Fellowship Program Every year the Program selects up to 20 mid-career academic environmental scientists in North America to participate in two week training that includes modules on effective communication with policy makers, the media, industry, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations. Leou Excellence in Science Teaching Award celebrates innovation in elementary-level environmental education, offering a cash prize of $250 and enrollment in two intensive workshops to twelve recipients. National KIND teacher chosen will receive an award plaque and a year subscription to KIND News for every class in their school. Nomination Deadline: February www.nahee.org/awards/national_kind_teacher_ National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Offers grants from $1,000 to $5,000 to schools initiating community-based environmental education programs that use a National Wildlife Refuge or other natural areas as an outdoor classroom. Deadline: June www.nfwf.org National Science Teachers Association Numerous grants and award programs available for teachers. www.nsta.org/programs National Science Foundation's Presidential Awards for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching Identifies outstanding science and mathematics teachers in each state and the four U.S. jurisdictions. Recognition is given to K-12th-grade teachers. The competition alternates each year between teachers of grades K-6 and teachers of grades 7-12. Recipients receive $10,000 and an expenses-paid trip with spouse/guest to Washington, D.C. for a series of recognition events and meetings. www.ehr.nsf.gov/pres_awards/ Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching National Science Foundation takes applications for the award. Up to 108 winners will receive a presidential citation, a $10,000 award and a paid trip to Washington, D.C. to attend a week-long series of events and professional opportunities. Participants in the fellowship spend nine months developing teaching, interpretive, and public relations techniques, plus many other skills related to residential environmental education. A total of 110 awards will be made in two categories: 100 experienced full-time high school math, science or technology teachers with more than three years teaching experience will receive a cash stipend of $3,000. Ten beginning high school math, science, or technology teachers who have completed at least one full year of teaching and have less than three years of experience will receive a $1,000 cash stipend. education.radioshack.com/TeacherAwards/index.html Scholarships to the Amazon Rainforest Workshop for Educators K-12 teachers and environmental educators can win a $1000 scholarship to travel to the Amazon and work with scientists in one of the most diverse environments in the world. The Workshop is a professional development opportunity for teachers to experience a 1/4 mile canopy walkway and visit the indigenous people who call the rainforest ecosystem their home. Email: toyotateach@iie.org Toyota Tapestry Grants for Teachers Awards numerous grants to eligible middle and high school K-12 science teachers who spend at least 50 percent of their classroom time teaching science, and elementary school teachers who teach some science. www.nsta.org/programs/tapestry/index.htm Tufts University's Wright Center's Science Teacher Fellowships Tufts University's Wright Center for Science Education funds this fellowship for science teachers teaching at the secondary-school level (grades 6-12). Applicants must have a minimum of five years teaching experience. Each Wright Fellow receives a stipend of $45,000 in addition to a sum of up to $500 to be used for books, equipment and science education-related software, as well as a contribution of up to $2,000 toward transportation/relocation costs. Faculty and health benefits are also included. Fellows are expected to be in residence from September through July at the main Tufts University campus in Medford, Mass.
